Types of insulin:
Rapid acting insulin that works in minutes and last a couple of hours.
Dose:
If you take Novolog or another type, you should inject yourselve 10 minutes before your meal.
Regular or short acting, takes 30 minutes to work and last 3 to 6 hours.
Dose:
should be taken 30 to 60 minutes prior your meal.
Intermediate acting insulin and takes 2 to 4 hours to work, and it can last up to 18 hours.
Dose:
should be taken 1 hour prior your meal
Long acting insulin takes 6 to 10 hours to reach the bloodstream and works for an entire day.
Dose:
are not timed to your meal because of their long acting effects.
